Getting started with your AirZooka
The AirZooka needs no assembly and no setup beyond fitting the handle, so most of getting started is about technique rather than preparation.
Quick answer
Pull the membrane back to its full stop and release cleanly. Set your first targets at about three metres, aim slightly high, and use the included paper cups so you can see when a shot lands. Almost every weak shot is an incomplete pull.
Key takeaways
- Always pull to the full stop â partial pulls produce weak rings
- Start at three metres and extend once you are hitting reliably
- Aim slightly above your target to allow for drop
- Stack the included cups as your first target
- Store it uncocked so the membrane keeps its tension
Before your first shot
Fit the handle component with the supplied screw if it is not already attached, and check the rubber band is seated properly in both buckles. That is the entire setup.
Set out the paper cups before you start. Firing at open air is unsatisfying precisely because you cannot see the ring, so having something to knock over matters from the first shot.
Firing technique
- Hold the cannon level, barrel pointing at your target.
- Draw the membrane straight back until it reaches its stop.
- Sight along the top of the barrel, aiming slightly high.
- Release cleanly â do not ease it forward.
Finding your range
Start at three metres. That is well inside the strong band, so you get obvious results and can tell immediately whether your technique is right. Once you are toppling the stack consistently, move back a metre at a time.
Games that work well early
- Cup pyramid â stack and topple, then rebuild higher
- Distance ladder â move back a step after each successful hit
- Candle out â extinguish a flame from progressively further away
- Two-player defence â each person guards their own stack
Putting it away
Store it with the membrane relaxed and out of direct sunlight. Rubber held under tension in a warm, bright place loses its snap far faster than rubber that is simply used a lot.
